I get asked a lot by people if they are too old to exercise. My answer . . .
I doubt it very much.
Obviously it is very important for you to get a complete physical and discuss with your doctor what type of exercise you intend to do. He may make some recommendations. He may tell you which type of exercise you should not do.
Once you've done that, set a goal.
How often a week do you want to devote to getting fit?
What type of exercise or physical fitness program would you enjoy doing?
Are there any activities you would like to do that you need to get into a certain physical condition to do that activity?
Think you're too old to do that activity? Look at this . . .

This is a picture of my dad - rapelling down the side of a cliff. He was 73 at that time.
To get to the cliff, he had to hike 9 miles carrying a 40 lb back pack. He wasn't alone. He was with a group of other seniors. I get some inspiration out of that - knowing there will still be goals to reach when I become a senior citizen.
Still think you're too old?
How about this? I run road races; about 8 - 10 a year. I ran a 5K race last year around Thanksgiving. The age group of 70 and over . . . the winner beat my time by 30 seconds. I finished about 200 out of 500 people, so I wasn't exactly running slow.
Still think you're too old?
So, get a physical and your doctor's ok. Pick an activity you believe you would enjoy doing. Then choose some exercise you can perform to help you reach that goal.
Hey, maybe you'll run into my dad when you're out there climbing some mountain. You can't miss him. He's known as Blick. Tell him his son said hi.
